Galaxies from a simple data reduction

  • ttfnrob by ttfnrob admin, scientist

I've been playing with the current data from the updated MWP and did a simple search for the most-likely galaxies that the community have found so far. These are the twelve results of a search of the database looking at the images in which most people mark galaxies. To generate this list, I look only at images with more than 10 classifications and then filter down to those where more than half the users that see the image mark a galaxy somewhere. All good candidates I think - a good start 😃

I'm assuming that the "current data" is in a database of some sort? I'm a software engineer and can assist with java programming/sql type database programming if you have a need.

@JCoop - check out Kaggle.com; they are a crowdsourcing site for data mining / statistical analysis. They are partnering with galaxy zoo to find ways of automatically analyzing the jpeg images to identify galaxies through a challenge.
