What is this? Star with bright green jets

  • Guildenstern42 by Guildenstern42

    wtf

I saw this and it's amazing - an extremely bright stellar object that seems to emit two jets that are MUCH stronger than the rest of its light. I'm completely new to any practical astronomy, so it may very well be common, but I have to ask: what IS that? A pulsar, perhaps?

Yes this is usually caused by bleed on the detector from the bright source. We've been tagging them as #greenstripe just to collect them up. This one has a nice shape though.

Hehe I'll add greenstripe to my ever lengthening list of hashtags 😃

Thanks for the feed back as to what things are. Really helps with the learning process =D

yea! I've found one here too: http://talk.milkywayproject.org/objects/AMW00013b7
I already thought it was some sort of distortion, since it looks REALLY different from all the other stuff on the photo's... but I still wondered what it was! 😃 thanks for clearing that up!
