supernova??

  • suelaine by suelaine

There is a bright red oblong object, top centre here. It is curious that it has a somewhat squashed (layman's term) appearance. Could it be a supernova?

Well, I thought it looked nothing like a supernova remnant, but I just looked up the coordinates and there's a pulsar right at the centre of this odd shaped bubble. I suppose we can't rule out that it's a chance alignment, but I'd say it's likely that the bubble is a result of a supernova (which created the pulsar). There appears to be some star formation going on on the periphery but I can't find anything associated with the bright red object on the Northern rim.
